This week's bulletin is coming to you from Taipei. Jane and I are enjoying the convention so far and have attended a number of interesting and informative short sessions. The convention opening is this afternoon and then the breakout sessions will be in full swing. It's been enjoyable catching up to Rotarians from Perth as well as meeting new people wherever we go.
Last night we visited one of the night markets and tried Taiwanese fried chicken and smelly tofu (2 of Jin's recommendations and both were delicious) among a number of other dishes. The market was packed and has very little seating, so we've learnt to find a beer stall with chairs, buy a drink and then take turns to buy our food.

Thanks to Marcus for recommending the TED talk D. Scott Phoenix: Why humans should merge with AI for our meeting last week. It provoked a lot of discussion about what we have to look forward to in the future...good and bad. Here's the link in case you missed it or want to watch it again.
The 8th of June episode of 4 Corners, The AI Race, is also worth watching. Interesting that Elon Musk said in 2018 he would be more worried about the implications of AI in the future than nukes.
Between our Esperance trip and going back to school on Tuesday, Jin enjoyed catching up with friends, lazing around at home and ice-skating and dinner at Cockburn Ice Arena. She had a ball ice-skating and is a natural. It was her first time, but she skated as though she had been for years.
Jin's time with us is running out so please reach out and see what else she'd like to do before she returns to Taiwan.

Pollinator Garden for SubiStrand – Your Assistance Needed
As part of the learning process for our Pocket Forest project, members are invited to assist with the preparation and planting of the pollinator garden for SubiStrand. It will give us some experience for when we have a pocket forest site ready to go.
The recent club survey shows that the thing our members value most is the friendships we have between each other. It's a valuable foundation for our club.
