Back in Perth after 10 days visiting our friend of 58 years, in Anglesea. Our long-standing friendship reminds me of the friendships and connections we enjoy in our Rotary club...our shared values and purpose.
This week, we will hear from Tony, who will tell us about his and Gaby's trip on the Ghan. I'm looking forward to hearing about the trip, one I'd love to do.
I've included an invitation to the Gold Polio Dinner on 23 October, an initiative of the Swan to Surf Community Group to raise funds for the End Polio campaign. World Polio Day is on 24 October.
World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members, public health advocates, and all who want a world free from polio to come together, recognize our progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about the actions we need to take in order to end polio for good. The Swan to Surf Community group, of which Western Endeavour is a member, is holding a fundraising dinner to raise funds for End Polio Now on 23 October. Prof Barry Marshall AC, Nobel Laureate is confirmed as our keynote speaker.
Any donations that are made on line at the time of booking the dinner will be forwarded to the Australian Rotary Foundation End Polio Campaign and attributed to your club. Last year we sent a total of $5026 in (some of these funds were donated directly by Clubs) - love to blow this total out of the water this year.
RPGC can seat 200 persons. If each club was able to aim for a minimum of 5 members + partners, we would easily exceed 120 attendees. Last year we were 82 attendees.
This is an opportunity to hear a high-profile speaker and raise funds for End Polio Now. World Polio Day is 24 October so I plan to substitute this event for our 20 October meeting.
