To represent the wildflowers (Djet Malkakoom) that cover the country during the Kambarang Season.
Kambarang season, the Season of Birth, marks the arrival of blooming native flowers in the region.
The most common wildflowers you may encounter during this time are yellow Acacias, Banksias, Kangaroo Paw and Orchids, to name a few. The Australian Christmas Tree or “Mooja’’ and its orange/yellow flowers signal the heat of summer is on its way.
As the weather warms up in October, you will also come across reptiles, including snakes, as they awaken from hibernation. Many other forms of wildlife become active during this month with families of birds appearing in nests, as baby Magpies (Koolbardies) and other native species sing for food.
During this season you can expect longer dry periods with less rain as we edge closer to the end of November.
Permission to use the Nyoongar seasonal calendar is granted by "South West Aboriginal Land and Sea Council".

Renee Kennedy, an acclaimed film and television producer is our Guest Speaker. Renee is currently producing a feature film adaptation of the celebrated novel "The Golden Age", by Joan London. The Golden Age is set in a 1950s Perth children's convalescent home during the polio epidemic. Her talk will connect the poignant story of this compelling post-war narrative to Rotary's ongoing mission.
Rotarians are able to make an on-line donation towards the End Polio Now Campaign at the time of booking or purchase a raffle ticket on the night. All funds raised will be linked back to your club when forwarded to Rotary International.

Transition Town Vincent Movie and Panel Discussion - Making a Mini-Forest
An inspiring documentary and panel discussion where we reimagine what life would be like if biodiversity was restored to the inner city suburbs of Perth. 🌳🌲
In different places, at different times, different people work towards the same goal - planting mini-forests in European cities. These groups use the Miyawaki Method, a tree-planting technique that focuses on regionally native tree species, uses no chemical fertilizers or additives, planting densely, using a relatively small area of land, and requires no maintenance after a few years. Narrated by Hannah Lewis, author of "Mini-Forest Revolution," stories form a bigger picture of planting mini-forests to counter climate change and restore biodiversity.
We're reshowing this documentary because of significant interest in our Black Cockatoo Forest project and the idea of upscaling it through the inner city suburbs of Perth. We will be joined by a number of panelists for a discussion after the documentary to gain a vision for the Black Cockatoo Forest in the inner city suburbs of Perth. The panelists will include Dr Grey Coupland (Murdoch University/Pocket Forests WA), Catriona Ferrie (Rotary), Steve McCabe (Rewild Perth) and others to be announced.
Before the movie, at 5pm, there will be a walking tour of Transition Town Vincent's nearby nature hub, a circularity precinct which features the first Black Cockatoo pocket forest planted in August, stage 2 planting site, the compost hub, community food forest, potting shed, Tools n Things library and existing bushland.
This project is jointly funded by Transition Town Vincent, Murdoch University, City of Vincent, Rotary International and the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust, Perth Natural Resource Management, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel,
The film starts at 6.30pm. Please arrive by 6.15pm if possible (Or 5pm for the walking tour).
Alcohol is available for purchase at the bar. There will be free popcorn thanks to The Source at The Mezz and free bakery items thanks to Dejaxo Bakery. You can also BYO snacks.
Children are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
