6 members of RCWE joined with Rotary of Cambridge on Wednesday morning for a very informative and pertinent presentation by Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Rhys Clark.
Rhys specialises in the latest hip & knee replacement surgical techniques as well as complex revision surgery and bone & soft tissue surgery. He spoke on hip and knee replacement surgery which is now done with robotic assistance. The surgeon controls the implements used to remove bone and to correctly place the artificial joint, but the calculations are done robotically and the robot ensures that the surgeon cannot utilise the tools outside of the calculated parameters. Amazing.

His final words of wisdom were "You don't need to pay huge sums to a surgeon to get great results." Just because a surgeon charges high fees it doesn't mean they are better than one who doesn't. Do your research.

MY HOME UPDATE
Our club members can be very proud of our support of the "My Home" project. The tenants have moved into the new Albany homes and we have contributed to making these houses into homes for the new residents.
Below are profiles of the tenants now living in the Albany “My Home” houses. All desperately in need of a home, now no longer homeless.
Single parent with a baby (<1 year), previously couch surfing while caring for a baby
Single parent with a primary school aged child, previously experienced homelessness for the past 2 years
Single parent with a toddler, previously couch surfing
Single parent and primary school aged child, previously couch surfing and exhausted from experiencing homelessness for extended period
Single adult, who had experienced homelessness for approximately 15 years
Single adult, previously living in unsafe housing being demolished
Older adult with serious health issues, previously living in a temporary caravan set up on someone else’s rural property, needing to be closer to medical services in a regional centre
Older adult and adult family member, previously experienced long-term housing instability, living separately out of necessity. One was sleeping in their car in a rural area, while the other was couch surfing. Now living together by choice.

What a huge difference the Rotary supporting "My Home" group has made in these people's lives. The next accommodation is to be built in Carlisle.
